Prithvi Shaw smashes second highest individual score in Ranji Trophy

Ace Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw is in a conventional form in the ongoing domestic circuit. Shaw smashed the second-highest individual score in Ranji Trophy by mastering an impressive 379-run knock for Mumbai against Assam at the Amingaon Cricket Ground in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Prithvi surpassed the previous second-highest individual score that was set by veteran Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar against Hyderabad at the 1990-91 edition of the Ranji Trophy. Manjrekar had anchored a smoking 377-run knock. Bhausaheb Nimbalkar of Maharashtra still holds the record for the highest individual score by any batsman in the history Ranji Trophy where he scored a touchdown knock of 443 runs against Saurashtra in 1948.

Prithvi Shaw recorded his first ton of the year in a fashionable style. He had remained unbeaten on 240 at the Stumps on Day 1 and eventually capitalized his innings to achieve a remarkable feat. Shaw has also been glorious in the white-ball format where he scored 332 runs at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and 217 runs at the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Shaw & Rahane’s splendid 301-run stand guided Mumbai to a mammoth total

Backed on Shaw’s marvelous stint, Mumbai managed to put a 687/4 run total in their first innings. Apart from Shaw, skipper Ajinkya Rahane also smashed a powerful 191-run knock. Rahane and Shaw added a thunderous 301-run stand for the third wicket.

Despite Shaw’s incredible performance in the domestic circuit, he had been distanced from the national squad as he last played an international fixture in July 2022. Shaw has truly displayed his consistent run and will likely be called by the selectors for the future bilateral series.

Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir hailed the fabulous stint by Shaw. He urged the selectors to consider Shaw for future international fixtures. Apart from Gambhir, Sanjay Manjrekar, Shreyas Iyer, Jay Shah, Suryakumar Yadav, Venkatesh Prasad, and Narendra Patil also applauded the heroics of Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw has been retained by Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League. Shaw has been explosive for the Capitals in the top order and has been a consistent scorer.
