PSL 2022: Complete Player Retention List of six franchisees released, Check Out!

The seventh edition of PSL will commence on 27th January with 34 matches to be played throughout the tournament. Of those, 15 matches of the PSL 2022 will be played in Karachi, while the rest of the matches will be staged in Lahore.

Notably, the retention, trade & release window of PSL 2022 closed on Friday, December 10 with franchises such as Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, and Peshawar Zalmi utilizing their full quota of eight retentions. However, Multan Sultan & Quetta Gladiators retained just seven players from their PSL 2021 squad.

For Player Draft of the PSL 2022 more than 425 players from 32 countries have registered. As per the PSL rules each franchise a single franchise can retain up to eight players. The eight retentions were divided into three categories Platinum, Diamond & Gold. For PSL 2022, the PCB has also introduced the ‘Right to Match Card’ which means each team will have one such card which they can utilize during the Player draft to select a player originally released from their team. Each franchise can have 18 players in their squad including three each in Platinum, Diamond, and Gold categories, five Silver, two Emerging, and up to two Supplementary categories.

Karachi Kings retained Babar Azam and Imad Wasim in Platinum Category while Lahore Qalandars retained Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan and Shaheen Afridi in the Platinum category.  PSL 2019 winners Quetta Gladiators retained James Vince & Sarfaraz Ahmed in the Platinum category & have bought Shahid Afridi & Iftikhar Ahmed in the trading window.

Mohammad Rizwan & Rilee Rossouw were successful in retaining their place with the Multan Sultans in the Platinum category while Asif Ali & Hasan Ali are the two players retained by Islamabad United in the Platinum category. Notably United bought Azam Khan via the trading window. Peshawar Zalmi’s retained their star players Liam Livingstone and Wahab Riaz in Platinum Category.
