Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja has once again triggered a fresh controversy by targeting the International Cricket Council (ICC) over their muted response amidst the ongoing rift between Pakistan (PCB) and India (BCCI). ICC is the global governing body of cricket that administers cricket all across the world.
Condemning the stifled stance of ICC, Ramiz Raja stated that the apex body is avoiding the issue and their intervention on account of BCCI’s significant contribution to the global body. BCCI is the richest cricket body in the world and has been the strongest decision-maker in ICC operations.
India and Pakistan have been the oldest arch-rivals in the history of cricket. However, due to the escalation of political issues between the two neighbours, India-Pakistan has not played a bilateral series since 2012. They only face off in major international events hosted by ICC or ACC.
Ramiz Raja threatened to not let Pakistan play in the 2023 World Cup
The PCB-BCCI controversy had sparked after incumbent Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had stated that India won’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 and the championship will be hosted at a neutral venue. In retaliation, PCB Chief Ramiz Raja asserted that Pakistan would also not travel to India for the 2023 World Cup if they snatch the hosting rights from Pakistan.
Ramiz Raja has been very vocal about the issue and desperately wants the Indian contingent to visit and play in Pakistan. Pakistan recently hosted New Zealand and England for a three-match series. However, the BCCI seems reluctant to compromise on the security of its cricketers and let the side play in Pakistan.
The two arch-rivals had last met at an ICC T20 World Cup group stage fixture in Australia where India got hold of Pakistan and won the match. It will be interesting to find out the future course of action by both boards.
