Ace Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely going to miss the entire or the first half of the Indian Premier League 2023. Pant survived a horrific accident on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway on Friday Morning after which he was admitted to a hospital and currently undergoing treatment.
In the absence of Rishabh Pant, veteran Australian batsman David Warner will likely lead the Delhi Capitals franchise in the 2023 edition of IPL. Warner has paramount captaincy experience and has led IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad to a victory in the 2016 edition of IPL.
Also in contention for the race to captaincy is frontline Indian batsman Manish Pandey who was bought by the franchise in the recently concluded auctions. However, Pandey will likely not be given an opportunity taking into consideration his maiden association with the franchise.
Rishabh Pant has undergone all the necessary tests at a private hospital in Dehradun. In a major sigh of relief for the explosive batsman, he did not sustain any major internal injuries or fractures except for a ligament tear on his right leg that will keep him out of the field for a while. Pant will also miss the crucial Australian series that is set to start on February 9.
Shaw & Marsh are also the contenders for leading Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023
Delhi Capitals will take their captaincy call in the coming weeks. Although they have some high-profile names in the squad including Mitchell Marsh and Prithvi Shaw, it is likely that Warner will ascend the throne and stand as the frontrunner to take the captaincy charge.
Rishabh Pant was driving to his hometown in his Mercedes SUV to spend new year’s eve with his family. He dozed off while driving and crashed into the divider near Roorkee. Pant suffered a couple of cuts on his forehead and back after which he underwent plastic surgery yesterday. The doctors at Max Hospital in Dehradun confirmed that he is out of danger and has no major injuries.
Earlier in the day, BCCI officials as well as Indian skipper Rohit Sharma called the hospital authorities to inquire about Rishabh’s health and asserted them to ensure proper treatment.
