Rishabh Pant has successfully undergone knee ligament surgery at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Friday.
The BCCI confirmed the news in an official statement which read, “Rishabh Pant has undergone a successful knee ligament surgery on Friday & will stay under observation. The roadmap of his rehabilitation will be advised by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala & BCCI Sports Science & Medical Team”.
Rishabh Pant was admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday after being airlifted from Dehradun for introspection on one of the two ligament tear injuries in the knee. He was immediately examined by the doctors at reaching Mumbai Hospital. Dr. Pardiwala, the Head of the Centre for Sports Medicine and Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital will develop the plan of action for Rishabh Pant’s rehabilitation. For the unversed, Pardiwala has worked with Tendulkar, Bumrah, Yuvraj, and Jadeja as well as other athletes.
BCCI has applauded the immediate treatment given to Rishabh Pant by the hospitals in Uttarakhand. But they still preferred to have Pant’s injuries treated by BCCI’s own medical team. Though Rishabh Pant’s medical insurance covers the cost of his treatment the expenses of transferring him in an air ambulance were borne by BCCI.
Rishabh Pant met an Accident on December 30
For the unversed, Rishabh Pant met an accident on December 30 when he was traveling back to see his mother in Roorkee Uttarakhand. Around 5.30 am his car crashed into a road divider & immediately caught fire. Pant was lucky to escape life-threatening injuries & received emergency care at Saksham Hospital in Roorkee. He was then transferred to Max hospital in Dehradun where he underwent plastic surgery on laceration wounds, abrasions & facial injuries. He also underwent MRI scans on his brain & Spine which returned with normal results. However, after a meeting between doctors at Max hospital & BCCI medical team, the decision of airlifting him to Mumbai was taken as one of his ligament tears needed immediate surgery.
There is a possibility of Rishabh Pant missing India’s home Test Series against Australia in the February-March 2023 window. However, it’s too early to predict a timeframe for his return to athletic activity & International cricket.
