There comes breaking news straight away from BCB. The head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team, Russell Domingo has resigned from his position with immediate effect. He informed BCB about his decision on Tuesday just two days after Bangladesh’s home Test series against India concluded with the latter winning the series by 2-0.
Earlier after the conclusion of the Test series, Domingo left for his home in South Africa for Christmas, but a statement from BCB Chairman Jalal Yunus indicated that the board is planning to change the coach after Bangladesh’s poor performance in the two-match Test series against India.
“We need a coach who has an impact and influence on the team,” Yunus told reporters shortly after the Dhaka Test. “You will soon see some changes. We are trying. We want a very strong team that can play quality and is a highly competitive team. We went close to beating India but it is tough to beat this team. We beat England and Australia on this ground, but India is a tougher side in these conditions.
BCB is unhappy with Russell Domingo’s Coaching Style
Jalal further said in his statement that they don’t want a coach but a mentor for their team. He also emphasized that teaching skills to players at the senior level is not possible but a coach can review their performances after a series & can work towards improving it.
Russell Domingo joined the team as Head Coach back in September 2019 just a few months after the BCB sacked Steve Rhodes following a disgusting performance of the National Team in World Cup 2019. Under Russell, the Bangladesh team attained success as they won the T20I series against Australia & New Zealand at home followed by a Test in New Zealand for the first time in their history & an ODI series in South Africa & at the home ground against none other than India.
On Wednesday during a local cricket tournament finals in Dhaka, BCB’s President Nazmul Hassan said that Bangladesh was planning to bring in more coaches into the team in the upcoming year. However, through various statement in the last few months BCB have clearly indicated that they were unhappy with Domingo’s coaching style & want him to inculcate an aggressive playing approach in the dressing room.
