SA20: Paarl Royals signs JP Duminy as their Head Coach

The latest International franchise of Royal Sports Group, Paarl Royals on Thursday unveiled their coaching staff for the inaugural edition of the SA20. This Coaching staff has a crucial task of preparing Paarl Royals for the inaugural edition of SA20 which is set to begin in January 2023. What comes as an epic decision by the Paarl Royals franchise is the appointment of JP Duminy, a former South African international player renowned for his powerful middle order batting, cunning off-spin, and upbeat temperament on the field, as their Head Coach.

Back in 2019 when he had won the CPL with Paarl Royals partner team Barbados Royals, Duminy retired from Cricket. After retirement, he entered the coaching industry where he worked as a batting consultant for the domestic team Lions and as a strategic consultant for the South African men’s team in 2021. Notably, he most recently served as the head coach of Paarl-based provincial side Boland, as well as the Paarl Rocks domestic T20 side.

After adding the talented batter, Jos Buttler of England, Obed McCoy of the West Indies, David Miller, and Corbin Bosch of South Africa to their roster, head coach Duminy will be joined by Richard Das Neves, another well-known name in South Africa’s cricket coaching scene.

Das Neves will take up the role of Paarl Royals’ strategy and spin bowling coach. A former bowling all-rounder for Gauteng, Das Neves will provide great support to Paarls line-up. He will help gear up the Royals bowling department for the SA20 with his immense experience in coaching jobs in local cricket, primarily with the Titans, and international coaching experiences with Namibia and Hong Kong.

Mandla Mashimbyi, a former pacer for the Titans and Northerns is slated to serve as the fast bowling coach and has a track record of success in her role. He was already a part of Proteas set-up as their fast bowling coach for a brief period last year, in addition to many of the significant roles Mandla performed in domestic cricket.

The Royals’ batting coach will be Mark Charlton, who received the “Division 2 Coach of the Season Award” at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony last month.

SA20 League: Lisa Keightley and AT Rajamani Joins Paarl Royals Coaching team

What comes another breakthrough is the joining of former Australia Women’s team player,  Lisa Keightley as a tactical performance coach in the Royals Support team. Her valuable experience in player management, strategy, and tactics will add more strength to the team. Additionally, the Boland Park-based team announced the appointment of Russel Aspeling as the team catalyst, a title originally coined by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2022 season.

Meanwhile, the position of strength & conditioning coach will be filled by AT Rajamani, who formerly worked for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and is currently with the Barbados Royals in the CPL. The Royals’ core analytics team will also be on-site to offer their perspectives.
