The BCCI on Tuesday announced a 15 player squad for the World Test Championship Final against New Zealand beginning on June 18. The shocking change in India’s final squad is the absence of Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul. While the bowling sensation Shardul Thakur also couldn’t make it to the bowler’s line-up.
Test specialists Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane & Ravichandran Ashwin have been selected in the 15 player squad. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who didn’t get the chance to play the home series against England due to an injury has also been included in the final squad. Rohit Sharma & Shubman Gill have been selected for the opener’s role in place of Mayank Agarwal & KL Rahul.
Hanuma Vihari who missed the home test series against England due to an injury has been included in the final squad for the WTC. Rishabh Pant & Wriddhiman Saha have been selected for the role of wicket-keepers in the 15 players’ test squad.
In the pacers list, India has included Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Umesh Yadav, with Thakur missing out. Spin bowling all-rounders Axar Patel & Washington Sundar have also been missed out from the squad.
Meanwhile, On Monday, the ICC Council has disclosed the prize money & award for the winners of the WTC final. The winners of the much-awaited WTC final will take home a whopping amount of USD 1.6 million along with the ICC Test Championship mace.
The losing team will get an amount of USD 800,000 for securing second place in the mega nine-team contest which has been played over a two-year cycle. The prize money for the team finishing third in the ICC World Test Championship standings is USD 4,50,000. The team that has finished fourth & fifth on the standings will be awarded USD 3,50,000 & 200,000 respectively, while the remaining four teams will get USD 1,00,000 each.
