WTC Final Match Preview:
The world’s best top nine teams have gone through an arduous competition of over two years to decide the fate of the inaugural season of the ICC World Test Championship. Out of these nine teams, India & New Zealand’s efforts turned to be fruitful, as both sides have successfully made it to the final of the World Test Championship.
Two top teams, India & New Zealand will lock horns with each other in the inaugural WTC Final commencing on Friday, June 18 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton England. While many players feel that this is “just another random test” for them. But the reality is that the results of this marquee clash will have greater consequences on how test cricket will be played & perceived in the future.
For India & New Zealand the WTC final is an opportunity to write their name in golden words in the history of cricket, as the first winners of WTC. Indian team captain, Virat Kohli will be desperate to win this final, to add that one missing feather in his cap. Kohli wants to win this final to cement India’s standings in test cricket under his leadership. Similarly New Zealand Captain, Kane Williamson has witnessed his team losing the last two ODI World Cup finals, these defeats will be an added motivation for Williamson & Co to perform well & get all the wrongs turned right in the WTC final. Both the captain will be eager to have a World Tournament under their belt & become winners of the first World Test Championship contest.
When skills are considered both the teams are equally skilled. Both the teams have experienced batting line-ups, quality pace attacks that would acclimate to English conditions. The only area where India has an edge over New Zealand is the spin bowling department. India’s spin bowling attack comprising of Ravindra Jadeja & R Ashwin who are far more experienced & proven than New Zealand’s spinner Ajaz Patel. On the other hand, the Black Caps might have an added advantage in terms of preparation, as they have recently played two-match test series against England where they emerged victoriously. This fresh experience of playing in tests will be a plus point for New Zealand.
Though both the teams are equal in terms of strength & competency, both have a different playing style. India under the captaincy of Virat Kohli plays a more vibrant & aggressive brand of cricket with players such as Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant & Virat Kohli who like to play with pace & aggression when the opportunity arises.
While New Zealand under the captaincy of Kane Williamson believes in playing cricket with discipline & control the core tenets of their game plan. Both the game methods have been successful in the WTC over the past two years. However, which team will emerge as winners in this blockbuster final is worth watching! Two competent teams coming into a face-off with each other, you can surely expect a nerve triggering contest on the grounds of Ageas Bowl.
