The match between the two teams in Malaysia saw team India defeating the Black Caps in the semi-finals & qualifying for the finals. Team India faced South Africa in the finals where they defeated the Proteas squad & won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2008.

Different experiences that you have either together or against each other. And often you find a bit of common ground and share a few common interests,” Williamson added. The WTC Final was not less than a roller-coaster ride for both the teams, with washed-out days & reserve day in the offering. However, due to consistency & determination, the Black Caps managed to win the WTC final by eight wickets. New Zealand took a 32 runs lead in the first innings after registering a total of 249 runs in response to India’s 217 all-out. However, in the second innings, India was wrapped up for 170 runs leaving New Zealand with an average target of 139 runs to win the marquee final.

Kane Williamson reckons that India had a fair chance to win the WTC Final. “India team counter-attacked after that, India had a fair shot too. The surface was offering to bowlers. It was intense for us,” he said.
