Pakistan’s ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi who sustained a knee injury during the T20 World Cup 2022 final resumed his rehabilitation on Monday. The ace pacer had sustained an injury after landing awkwardly while trying to dismiss Harry Brook during the T20 World Cup final.
He tried to resume bowling in the 16th over but due to unbearable pain, he had to leave the field right after bowling his first delivery. Later scans were conducted & it was revealed that though the injury is not serious it has caused knee discomfort to the bowler due to a forced knee flexion while landing.
“Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will resume his rehabilitation under the national men’s team’s medical staff in Karachi from today. While providing Shaheen top-notch care, this move will allow the medical staff to track his progression and pave the way for his smooth return to action,” said a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) statement on
Monday.
The injury to Shaheen Afridi proved to be an advantage for England as Pakistan couldn’t scalp early wickets & ended up losing the T20 World Cup final by seven wickets. Later he was also ruled out of the Test squad for the three-match Test series against England which ended with England winning the series by 3-0.
Afridi’s injury problem has been a prolonged issue as prior to the T20 World Cup 2022 during the October-November window he underwent a rehabilitation process for his knee injury in London which he encountered during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last July.
Meanwhile, the interim selection committee & Pakistan team management have called up bowler Haris Rauf for undergoing assessment by the team’s medical staff so that a decision on his availability in the New Zealand ODIs which will begin next week could be taken as early as possible. Earlier in December 2022, Haris Rauf was ruled out during his debut Test after suffering a quadricep strain & thus couldn’t feature in any of the three-match series.
