Shakib-Al-Hasan, Nurul Hasan & Anamul Haque all three players were charged 15% of their match fees during BPL 2023 fixture between Fortune Barishal & Rangpur Riders in Dhaka on Tuesday. Nurul Hasan & Shakib-Al-Hasan were fined for not listening to the umpire’s instructions under Article 2.4 of BCB’s code of conduct. On the other hand, Anamul Haque was fined for showing disapproval of the umpire’s decision.
While BCB’s press release didn’t highlight a specific incident but all three players were involved in an argument just before the beginning of the second innings of the fixture. There was to & for going on between Barishal opener Chaturanga De Silva & Rangpur Captain Nurul shortly before the Barishal chase began shortly. Nurul had changed his bowler from left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan to offspinner Mehedi Hasan after learning that De Silva would take the strike. But the moment Anamul took the strike instead of Silva, seeing the change in bowler, Nurual went back to left-arm pacer Rakibul.
The incident became worse when Barishal Captain Shakib rushed onto the ground to confront the umpires & argued with the on-field referee Gazi Sohel until Rakibul began the innings off De Silva’s delivery. Later in the post-match conference, Nurul said he was changing bowlers after seeing Shakib shouting from the boundary edge. He further said that it was the first time that he saw a captain entering the field.
BPL 2023: Barishal Manager came in Support of Shakib-Al-Hasan
However later Barishal’s manager clarified Shakib’s act by saying that he went into the field only to speak to the umpires & figure out what was going on the field. He said that as per the rules, batters decide who will take the strike when the bowler who will bowl the delivery gets confirmed. So Shakib wanted Anamul to take the strike when Mahedi was going to bowl his overs. But when the umpires weren’t allowing Anamul to take the strike, Shakib entered the field to speak to them.
Later all three players accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Akhtar Ahmad & thus there was no need for formal hearings. In addition, one demerit point has been added to each player’s disciplinary record.
