However then came Kusal Mendis & Dhanajaya De Silva for Sri Lanka’s rescue. The duo stitched a 36-run stand for the second wicket to help Sri Lanka recover from a state of worry. But soon their blooming stand was broken when Mendis was removed in the 8th over for 25 runs off 27 balls, reducing Lanka to 46-2.

However, De Silva was going strong at the other end. He stitched a 54-run stand for the third wicket with Charith Asalanka (19 off 18) to help Sri Lanka have an upper edge in the chase. After Asalanka fell in the 14th over, De Silva joined hands with Rajapaksa & stitched a 42-run stand for the fourth wicket. Rajapaksa topo was sent packing in the 18th over for 18 runs off 14 balls but De Silva was going strong at the other end.
