SL vs BAN Live Score: Sri Lanka clinch decisive win to storm into Super 4

SL vs BAN Live Score: Defiant Sri Lanka overpowered Bangladesh by two wickets in the last pool stage fixture of Group B to cruise their way into the Super 4. Sri Lanka now joins India and Afghanistan who have already qualified whereas the winner between Pakistan and Hong Kong will fill the final berth in the Super 4 Stage.

Winning the toss at the Dubai International Stadium, Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka took an extraordinary decision to bowl first. Batting first, Bangladesh were off to a sluggish start but later built their innings with massive hits to post 183/7 in the first innings.

Bangladesh’s frontline batting order displayed a satisfactory performance as opener Mehidy Hasan (38) and Shakib Al Hasan (24) added 39 runs for the second wicket. Sabbir Rahman (5) and Mushfiqur Rahim (4) failed to make noteworthy contributions.

The heroics of Afif Hossain (39) and Mahmadullah (27) who added 57-runs for the fifth wicket helped Bangladesh to cross the 150 mark. Mosaddek Hossain (24) played a powerful knock to help Bangladesh end their innings at 183.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga (2/41) and Chamika Karunaratne (2/32) scalped a couple of wickets each whereas Maheesh Theekshana, Dasun Madushanaka, and Asitha Fernando chipped in a wicket apiece.

Chasing a challenging total of 174, Sri Lanka was off to a demeaning start as Nissanka (20), Asalanka (1), Gunathalika (11) and Rajapaksa (2) failed to hold the crease and built strong partnerships. However, the stunning match-winning partnership between Mendis (60) and Shanka (45) helped the Sri Lankan tribe to get back on track. The two added 64-runs for the fifth wicket to help Sri Lanka survive in the chase of 174 runs.

In the end, diligent cameos from Karunaratne (18) and Fernando (10) took Sri Lanka through as they managed to chase the target in 19.3 overs.

For Bangladesh, Ebadot Hossain starred in the bowling attack by scalping 3 wickets for 51 runs. Taskin Ahmed (2/24) grabbed two wickets whereas Mustafizur Rahman (1/32) and Mahedi Hasan (1/30) settled for a wicket apiece. The Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2022 will kick start on September 3 with finals scheduled on 11th September.
