SLC denies NOC to Wanindu Hasaranga for playing in Hundred 2022

Sri Lanka’s star pacer Wanindu Hasaranga lost a contract worth £100,000 with Manchester Originals after being denied a NOC to play in the Hundred 2022 by Sri Lanka Cricket.

Ashley De Silva, SLC’s Chief Executive told the media that SLC has turned down his request as they want him to stay fresh mentally & physically for the more crucial Asia Cup 2022 which begins on August 27 in the UAE & the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia later this year.

Earlier, it was expected that Wanindu Hasarnga will miss the Hundred 2022 tournament due to the clash of dates with LPL 2022. However, the tournament was postponed due to the growing unrest in the Lankan country. Manchester could retain Hasaranga for the Hundred 2023 if he agrees to commit the franchise to his availability for the 2023 season.

Tristan Stubbs walks in as Hasaranga’s Replacement

Hasaranga’s loss becomes Stubbs’s gain as the middle-order batter has been signed as the replacement of Wanindu Hasaranga for the upcoming edition of the Hundred. The middle-order swash-buckling batter who smashed 72 off 28 balls in their first T20I against England will join the Originals squad after the completion of South Africa’s second T20I against Ireland on Friday.

Manchester Originals will kickstart their Hundred 2022 campaign against Northern Superchargers at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday night. The squad will fill up their overseas players’ spot with the signings of Andre Russell, Ashton Turner, and Sean Abbott. Turner will be benched when Stubbs will be available for playing & will return to the squad when Russell departs for CPL 2022, beginning on September 1.

Naseem Shah Pulls out of the Hundred 2022

Big Names pulling out of the Hundred is becoming a matter of concern for the ECB. Earlier today, Welsh Fire confirmed that Naseem Shah has pulled out of the tournament after he got selected for Pakistan’s tour to the Netherlands and the Asia Cup 2022. Naseem didn’t feature for Welsh Fire in the opening match of the tournament against Southern Brave & will jit link up with the squad in the near future as well. Welsh Fire didn’t announce a replacement for Naseem Shah till now.

Meanwhile, Birmingham Phoenix have brought in Brett D’Oliveira, the Worcestershire allrounder, and Timm van der Gugten, the Glamorgan seamer, as injury replacements for Tom Abell and Olly Stone respectively
