Sri Lanka announces 13 member squad for T20 World Cup 2022

Sri lanka announces a 13 member squad for T20 World Cup 2022. The squad sees the return of Dushmantha Chameera & lahiru Kumara who missed the Asia Cup 2022 due to injuries. They would feature in the World Cup squad on subject to clearance of fitness test.

The rest of the 13 players picked for Sri Lanka T20 World Cup squad were a part of Sri Lanka’s extended squad that featured in Asia Cup 2022 which Sri Lanka won by defeating Pakistan. Dinesh Chandimal, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwanindu Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama and Nuwan Thushara are the other members of the Asia Cup squad who couldn’t make a cut to the T20 World Cup squad. SLC also named five stand-by players who will travel along with Sri Lanka World Cup squad. Bandara, Jayawickrama, Chandimal, Binura Fernando and Nuwanindu Fernando are named as reserve players.

Dushmantha Chameera returns after recovering from a Calf Injury

Dushmantha Chameera who was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a calf injury has completed his rehabilitation & will be available for selection on clearance of fitness Test. Kumara on the other hand, last featured in an International fixture against India in the Mohali Test in March 2022. In their absence, Karunaratne, Madushanka and Madushan handled the pace responsibilities, picking up 19 wickets between them in Sri Lanka’s victorious campaign. On the basis of their scintillating performances, they were included in T20 World Cup squad.

Sri Lanka are placed in Group A for First Round of T20 World Cup

Sri lanka are grouped alongside Namibia, Netherlands and the UAE in Group A in the first round of the T20 World Cup. While Group B comprises of Ireland, Scotland, West Indies and Zimbabwe. Only the top two teams from both Group A and Group B will make it to the Super 12 stage.

Sri Lanka will take on Namibia on October 16 in their first game of the competition. They face the UAE next on October 18 followed by their match against the Netherlands on October 20. All three games are scheduled to be played at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong.
