There comes a massive blow for Afghanistan’s fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi as his BBL stint with Sydney Thunder has come to an end. The franchise has terminated Fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi’s contract with immediate effect following a hearing held by Cricket Australia’s Conduct Commissioner.
The exact reason for Thunder’s shocking decision is still unknown. But as per a statement, Sydney Thunder had received a complaint about Farooqi’s behavior after an incident held on Thursday & immediately referred the matter to CA’s integrity unit for investigation. After the completion of the investigation & subsequent hearing & ruling by the commissioner, Thunder decided to terminate his contract.
When asked about the matter, Cricket Australia said that the whereabouts of the matter are confidential & they will make no further comment about it. However, it was understood that there was no police involvement in the case.
Revealing the reason behind taking such a major step, Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said that the standard of behavior displayed by Fazalhaq Farooqi is out of their values & jurisdiction & thus they have decided to terminate his contract. The statement further added that their prime focus is to provide the necessary support to the people affected by this incident. Meanwhile, Thunder hasn’t made any decision about appointing a replacement player. But there are chances that they will soon begin the search for Farooqi’s replacement.
Fazalhaq Farooqi was signed in November as a replacement player for David Willey who withdrew from the tournament. Fazalhaq was an integral part of Willey’s Playing XI in all four matches they have played so far. He has turned heads around in his first fixture for the club by scalping 2 wickets for 20 runs against Melbourne Stars. Later he followed it up with a stunning (3-20) in their next fixture against Adelaide Strikers. Fazalhaq was picked up by Thunder on the back of his scintillating performances in the T20 World Cup where he scalped two wickets against Australia.
