Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23: The prestigious SMAT 2022-23 is all set to be played from October 11 to November 5. India’s prestigious tournament will be a blockbuster with leading players of India’s domestic cricket battling out for the coveted trophy. They will try to prove their prowess in the domestic arena to get a ticket to India’s National team. The 2021 edition of the tournament was won by Tamil Nadu after defeating Karnataka by four wickets in the final.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is India’s premier Domestic Tournament which was started by the BCCI in the year 2006. The tournament is named after former Indian cricket Syed Mushtaq Ali, who is India’s first cricketer to score a century outside Indian soil. Paytm is the official title sponsor of this tournament.
A lot of prolific players such as Shivam Dube, Devdutt Padikkal, Sharuk Khan, Varun Chakravarthy, Lukman Meriwala, and Mohammed Azharuddeen have been picked by the IPL teams on the basis of their outstanding performances in the prestigious Tournament. Therefore SMAT is regarded as the ladder for players to prove their prowess & get qualified for International cricket & big T20 Leagues.
Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 Format:
The prestigious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 will have 38 teams divided into five different elite groups. Eight teams each will be present in Groups A, B, and C while seven teams will feature in Groups E and F. The tournament will be played across six cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Mohali, Indore & Lucknow. While the knockout matches will be played in Kolkata.

SMAT 2022-23: Winners of All Seasons
Tamil Nadu is the winner of the inaugural edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Notably, they have also won SMAT 2021. None of the teams has managed to win the competition more than two times. As per the titles clinched Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Baroda are the joint-successful teams of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with two trophies each.
