The heart-warming teaser of Tapasee Pannu starrer Mithali Raj’s biopic ‘Shabaash Mithu’ got released today. The film is based on the real-life story of the Indian Women’s team captain, Mithali Raj. Tapasee Pannu who is playing the role of Mithali Raj in the biopic film shared the teaser of the movie on her social media handles.

The teaser of Mithali Raj’s Biopic, ‘Shabaash Mithu’ contains snippets of commentary from stalwarts like Ravi Shastri, Harsha Bhogle, and Vivek Razdan, alongside a running text that reads – “The only Indian cricketer to score seven consecutive 50s in ODIs, a captain in four World Cups. The youngest to score a Test 200. Playing for 23 years the gentleman’s game – a woman (sic).”
Mithali Raj’s biopic movie, Shabaash Mithu is based on the inspiring journey of Mithali Raj, depicting the highs and lows, setbacks, and moments of euphoria of Mithali’s life. ‘Shabaash Mithu’ has been shot across domestic and international locations to aptly bring alive Mithali’s iconic journey and her significant rise as one of the best cricketers in World Cricket. A Rahul Dholakia-directed film was initially expected to release in February, but following a postponement, it is now all set to hit theatres in April of 2022.
Highlights of Mithali Raj’s celebrated Career in World Cricket
Known as the “Sachin Tendulkar of Indian women’s cricket” Mithali Raj became the second woman player in the world and the first from India to make 10,000 international runs during the third ODI against South Africa Women in March 2021. The highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket, Mithali Raj has played all three cricket formats for India; Test, One Day, and T20I. Raj has played 19 Tests, 230 ODIs & 89 T20Is amassing 699 Test runs, 7737 ODI runs & 2364 T20I runs during her illustrious career span.
Mithali Raj, who made her ODI debut in June 1999 against Ireland, is the only female cricketer to score more than 7,000 runs in ODI matches. The right-handed opening batter and also an occasional right-arm leg-break bowler has eight ODI wickets on her name. She is the first player to score seven consecutive 50s in ODI matches & has seven ODI tons & 63 ODI fifties in her kitty. Mithali is the first woman to complete 20 glorious years in International Cricket. She was just 19-year-old when she broke the record of the world’s highest individual Test score of 209 runs by scoring 214 runs in August 2002.
The recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, Padma Shri, Youth Sports Icon of Excellence Award, Vogue Sportsperson of the Year, BBC 100 Women Award, and Wisden Leading Woman Cricketer in the World Award, veteran Mithali Raj announced her decision to retire from T20Is in September 2019 in order to focus on ODI cricket.
Currently, Mithali Raj-led Indian Women’s team is participating in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. Indian team is currently placed at the fourth poistion in the World Cup Points Table with four points in their kitty. They have won two matches & lost three fixtures so far in the tournament. The India Women’s team will next lock horns in the 22nd match of the World cup against Bangladesh Women on 22nd March at Seddon Park.
