Hundred 2022: London Spirits powered another victory against Welsh Fire at the ongoing edition of England’s The Hundred championship on Wednesday. A resilient and stupendous all-round performance by the Spirits assured them to retain their top position in the standings after the end of the sixth round.
Winning the toss at the iconic Lord’s stadium, Welsh Fire skipper Josh Cobb made an unfortunate decision to field first. Put in to bat first, Riding on the back of a stupendous batting performance by the middle order, London Spirits posted a commendable total of 156/6.
A stunning batting show guided London Spirits to a decent total
Opener Adam Rossington (32) helped the Spirits to get off a flying start. Thereon, Ben McDermott (32) took over the command and ensured that the momentum continued. In the end, a stunning 48-run partnership between Dan Lawrence (43) and Keiron Pollard (25) for the fifth wicket helped the London Spirits to cross the 150-run mark.
For Welsh Fire, Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi led the bowling attack with a solenoid figure of 2/19 whereas Josh Cobb (1/14), Jake Ball (1/42), and Dwaine Pretorius (1/39) chipped in a wicket apiece.

Chasing a challenging total of 157, Welsh Fire lost quick wickets in the start as Jacob Bethell (10), Joe Clarke (9), Josh Cobb (3) and David Miller (5) put the side to struggle at 37/4. Ben Duckett (34) and Dwaine Pretorius (23) then initiated a significant rescue as they put up a 43-run stand for the fifth wicket. In the end, Leus du Plooy (30) and Matt Critchley (21) displayed a vital cameo but their efforts went in vain as Welsh Fire fell short of 17 runs and could only score 139.
For London Spirit, Chris Wood and Dan Lawrence were the picks of the bowlers who registered match-winning figures of (4/28) and (4/20) respectively. Jordan Thompson (1/38) grabbed a wicket apiece.
