‘King Kohli’ has added another gleaming accolade to his kitty in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Virat Kohli has become the highest run-scorer in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup by surpassing Mahela Jayawardene’s record of 1016 runs set in 2014.
Kohli achieved the milestone during India’s Group 2 fixture against Bangladesh in Adelaide. He made this rare record by scoring runs at an average of more than 80 & a strike rate of more than 130 in T20 World Cups. Virat Kohli achieved the desirable record off Taskin Ahmed’s delivery on the 13th ball of the seventh over of India’s innings in their ongoing fixture against Bangladesh.
Playing his career’s fifth T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli became the highest run-scorer in the men’s T20 World Cup in just 23 innings having scored 12 half-centuries. On the other hand, Jayawardene has achieved this milestone in just 31 innings though he took less number of balls (754) as compared to Kohli (773).

Virat Kohli scored 185 runs in his maiden T20 World Cup edition in 2012 & further became the tournament’s highest run-scorer in 2014. In the 2016 edition, he was the second-highest run-scorer. Kohli was awarded the Player of the Tournament in the 2014 & 2016 editions which makes him the only cricketer to win the award twice in the tournament’s history. His six Player of the Match Awards is the highest in the marquee event’s history.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 also Kohli added plethora of runs to his kitty by registering two consecutive unbeaten half-centuries in India’s fixture against Pakistan & Netherlands. However, he stole the limelight in India’s fixture against Bangladesh when he overtook Jayawardene to become the highest run-scorer in the history of the Men’s T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli also holds the prestigious record of being the highest run-scorer in T20Is followed by Rohit Sharma, Guptill, Babar Azam & Paul Stirling on the list. Soon Kohli will cross the 4000-run milestone in T20Is & currently averages more than 50 with a strike rate of nearly 140.
