IND vs BAN 3rd ODI: India’s former Captain, Virat Kohli has ended his three-year-long ODI Century drought by registering his 44th ODI ton on Saturday in the third ODI against Bangladesh. With this ton, Virat Kohli registered his 72 International Century & has surpassed the record of former Australia Captain Ricky Ponting who has 71 International Centuries in his kitty. Sachin Tendulkar is the only cricketer who is ahead of Virat Kohli in the highest number of International Century list with 100 International Centuries in his kitty.
Virat Kohli unlocked several records en route his 72 International Century
Virat Kohli has unlocked several records in the process of registering his 72 International Century. He has scored 113 runs in 91 balls. He has now completed 1000 ODI runs in Bangladesh becoming the only second player to achieve the feat in Bangladesh behind Australian great Shane Watson. Kohli now enjoys 1000-plus runs in three different nations outside India. Australia & England are the other two countries where Kohli has left his impression by scoring more than 1000 runs. The occasion is special for Virat Kohli & Indin fans as Virat has registered an ODI ton after 1214 days. His last ODI ton came against West Indies in 2019. Virat has also stitched 290 runs for the second wicket with Ishan Kishan to guide India to a decent 409 runs total in alotted 50 overs.
Ishan Kishan becomes the fastest double centurion in ODIs
Not just Virat Kohli but Ishan Kishan too made his presence felt during the third ODI. The swashbuckling young batter, Ishan became the fastest double centurion in the ODI format & the fourth Indian batter to achieve this milestone. Rohit Sharma who was ruled out of the third ODI paved the way for Ishan Kishan to march into the playing XI. And Ishan Kishan grabbed this opportunity with both hands & fired all cylinders to register the fastest double ton in the ODI format. In the process, he also became the seventh batter in World Cricket to register a double ton in the ODI format. He played a perfect knock of 210 runs off 131 balls with 24 fours & 10 sixes.
Ishan surpassed the record of Gayle’s 138-ball double ODI ton record by registering a double ton in 131 balls. He also broke Virender Sehwag’s record of the fastest 150 in the ODI format. Sehwag reached 150 in 112 balls while Ishan Kishan did it in just 103 balls. Not only this but the swashbuckling opening batter also became the youngest batter in the history of the ODI format to register a double century. His fruitful 290-run stand with King Kohli helped India to have an edge over Bangladesh bowlers.
