The West Indies beat England by outstanding four wickets in the first Test Match to take a lead in the first Test Match by 1-0.
Initially, at the start of the first Test match against England, West Indies were not in a good form however with some outstanding performances in the final day of the Tets match the Windies emerge as victorious. Shannon Gabriel’s brilliance with the ball followed by Jermaine Blackwood’s spectacular 95 runs in the chase resulted in the unexpected win for the Windies as they took 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series.
The cricket fraternity praised West Indies for its brilliant talent. India captain Virat Kohli took to Twitter after West Indies’s victory, saying: “Wow @windiescricket what a win. Top display of test cricket.”
The West Indies had a 200 run target to win on the final day of the Test Match by England but were struggling at 27 for three thanks to Jofra Archer’s early double strike. But an outstanding knock by Windies Player Blackwood bough the visitors back into form by scoring 95 runs just five runs less for a century leaving the visitors at 11 runs to win. John Campell who had earlier went back to pavilion came back to hit the winning runs. Windies Captain Jason Holder praised his team’s hard work & outstanding performance in the match by saying it was the best day he ever had in Test Cricket.
“It is right up there with the best victories we’ve had as a group,” Holder told media. “To me, yesterday was probably the best day I’ve had in Test cricket,” added the West Indian all-rounder. “It was a hard, long toil and the bowlers really put it in. Every time I asked a bowler to come up and give a spell, they came up and gave a massive effort.”
