WI vs ND 2022, 1st ODI: Windies embarks on a winning start, beats Dutch by Seven Wickets

WI vs ND 2022, 1st ODI: West Indies got off to a good start under their new captain Nicholas Pooran & were already the favorites to win the match against the associate nation Netherlands. The game was played at the VRA Cricket Ground in Amstelveen, Netherlands. The game was interrupted by rain but still, we got to see the result. However, due to rains, the match was reduced to 45 overs per side.

The Netherlands was asked to bat first by West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran. The Netherlands had a good start with the bat. But due to the regular loss of wickets, they were only able to put 240 runs in 45 overs. Despite some exceptional performances, the Dutch batsmen struggled against the Windies’ combination of spin and speed. The Dutch were led to a reasonable score by notable players Vikramjit Singh (47), Max O’Dowd (39), and all-rounder Teja Nidamanuru (58*). WI’s top bowlers were Akeal Hosein (2/29) and Kyle Mayers (2/50) while Alzarri, Anderson Philip & Hayden Walsh scalped one wicket each.

In the second innings, West Indies, who were chasing 241, got off to a flying start, with wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope and Shamarh Brooks (60) setting up a 120-run first-wicket partnership. Hope smashed the Dutch bowling attack, hitting 12 fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 119 from 130 balls.

The Netherlands had no response to Hope’s willow-wielding thrashing. After the dismissal of Brooks, they got two wickets in the form of Nkrumah Bonner (0) and Nicholas Pooran, who could only score seven runs in his debut innings as captain. Hope stayed with Brandon King till the end, who hit an exciting 58* off 51 balls with five fours and two sixes to lead his side to a seven-wicket victory. The man of the match was the star batsman of WI Shai hope who comfortably guided West Indies to a gleaming win.

Pacer Logan Van Beek was the star bowler for the Dutch scalping 2-49 in his eight overs spell. Spinner Aryan Dutt scalped the prized wicket of Captain Pooran by conceding 46 runs. West Indies will next lock horns with the Netherlands in the Second ODI at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on Thursday.
