India Women vs Australia Women: Tayla Vlaeminck ruled out of the upcoming ODI series & One-off Test

India Women vs Australia Women: What comes as a major shock for the cricket fans is that Australia fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck will miss the ODI series & the one-off test against India, Australia’s Head Coach Matthew Mott informed on Thursday.

India Women’s team will come into a face-off with Australia Women’s team in a multi-format series comprising three ODIs, one-off pink ball test & three T20Is. The first ODI of the ODI series will be played on September 21 at Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay.

Head Coach Matthew Most said that the pacer had a “little” niggle during the practice session & to manage workload she would be unavailable for the ODIs & one-off test.

Tayla has had some little niggles throughout her build-up down in Victoria. That’s something that we have been monitoring all the way through”, quoted Mott as saying.

“And she does have to step up her loads gradually. We have got to manage her really well- we have got a huge 18 months for her as a young fast bowler, & we know the impact that she can have when she plays”, he added.

Meghan Schutt & Jess Jonassen to miss the bilateral series against India

Fats bowler Megan Schutt won’t be a part of the India Women vs Australia Women bilateral series as she is on a leave after the birth of her first child. On the other hand, Aussie’s women won’t have the services of left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen due to injury. Thus the onus is on Ellyse Perry to lead the bowling unit. In the absence of front-line bowlers, Mott expects Ellyse to up her game & perform well for the National team.

“Perry obviously had a very long recovery now & this series is something she has planned a lot for”, Mott said.

“Speaking to bowling coach, Ben Swayer who has worked a lot with her at the Sydney Sixers, he has really happy with where she is at. At the crease, he can’t remember her being as strong as she has been & certainly in the hits that we have had up here (we have seen that).

“She had a pretty good bowl today; she got a little bit of tap early, but then came back & got a wicket, got Meg out & bowled really well. So it’s exciting to see where she is going to take her game. Something we have spoken about is without Schutt & Jonassen, she has going to play a really pivotal role in leading our attack with some young bowlers around her”, Mott concluded.

Tayla Vlaeminck’s Career Overview

Tayla Vlaeminck made her International debut in T20I cricket in 2018 & was a crucial part of Australia’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2018. Vlaeminck has been featured in 20 international games so far, including one Test, eight ODIs, and 11 T20Is.

She made her Test debut in the 2019 Ashes series and was one of Australia’s main weapons in their 2020 T20 World Cup title defense, however after leading the bowling attack in tri-series against India and England she was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her right foot and missed 12 months of cricket. She returned to international cricket on Australia’s tour of New Zealand in 2021. She is currently working on her fitness & could eye a comeback only after completing her rehabilitation.
