PCB announces 26 player Pakistan Women's team for limited overs series in West Indies

Pakistan Women’s team is scheduled to tour West Indies for limited-overs series against West Indies women’s team. On Monday, PCB’s national Women’s selection committee announced a 26 player preliminary squad from which the National & ‘A’ teams will be selected for the white ball matches on the tour of the West Indies.

Javeria Khan, who has a wide experience of playing 208 International matches & is the leading run-scorer for Pakistan in the ODIs, will lead the national team. Rameen Shamim who has played two ODIs & four T20Is will lead the Pakistan Women’s ‘A’ team in the three ODIs while Sidra Nawaz with a rich experience of 98 International outings will head the ‘A’ team in the three T20Is

All the 26 players of the preliminary squad will be available for selection for 14 matches. The Pakistan National Women’s team will lock horns with West Indies Women in three T20Is & five ODIs while the ‘A’ team will face West Indies ‘A’ team in three ODIs & three T20Is.

Urooj Mumtaz who is the chairperson of the national Women’s selection committee, said in an Official Press Release, “This is a historic occasion in the history of Pakistan’s women’s cricket as for the first time national team & the ‘A’ team are traveling together. The Caribbean tour presents a phenomenal opportunity to our core group of cricketers to showcase their performances & further cement places for the 2021-2022 season, which promises to be an exciting season for women’s cricket”.

“These 26 players have been involved in all our high-performance camps over the past nine months & have put in the hard yards under the national coaching staff led by David Hemp. The group has prepared with high intensity & purpose. They remain focused & determined to put up winning performances”, Urooj added.

Meanwhile, the 26 player contingent including the support staff & the coaching staff has arrived in Lahore in Morning morning. They will leave for Antigua in the early hours of June 23, Wednesday via London. The touring team will undergo COVID-19 tests before their departure by Monday afternoon & members testing negative will board the plane on June 23. After reaching Antigua the 26 player contingent will stay five days under room isolation & would be tested regularly during these five days of isolation.
