Zimbabwe Cricket has announced squads for the first-ever U19 Women’s T20 World Cup to be played from January 14 to 29, 2023 in South Africa. The side will be headed by all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu who already holds International experience at the senior level.
Ndhlovu has turned heads around by achieving big things at a tender age. She finished the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022 in the UAE in September as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. On the other hand, her batting created an impact during the Zimbabwe senior Women’s team tour to Namibia where she stitched an unbeaten opening stand of 158 runs in front of Namibia. Zimbabwe U19 women’s Team will also feature senior pace sensation Michelle Mavunga who will set the field on fire with her powering pace attack. Meanwhile, the 15-member squad will also feature Ndiraya twins, Kay & Kelly who will travel to South Africa for the inaugural edition.
The U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 will see 16 teams participating in the tournament. Further, the teams will be divided into groups of four. The top three teams of each group will progress into the Super Six stage which will have two pools. The top two teams from each Super Six league will march ahead into the semi-finals with the final taking place on January 29. Zimbabwe is placed in Group B along with England, Rwanda & Pakistan in the inaugural edition. All the Group B fixtures will be played in Potchefstroom Zimbabwe will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against England in January 15 at the JB Marks Oval.
